Tyche's Path : Finding Happiness

Where Can We Find Happiness?

Many experiences come together to make a life; struggle, learning, growth, satisfaction of a job well done, decent relationships and novelty. The industrial revolution has given humans a life of convenience and power, but it hasn't focused on creating a fulfilling life. If one takes a step back the global depression epidemic makes perfect sense. We have spent the last hundred years searching for stuff and power at the expense of all else.

The postmodern world & media landscape emphasizes happiness and the expense of other areas of life. It is easy to think that hedonism and the pursuit of pleasure is the only way and the quickest way to find happiness. Ironically the more one looks for happiness the more elusive it becomes.

The Secret to Happiness

Happiness is like a flower that grows in a well-tended garden. Plant a seed in the soil, nurture the land with nutrients and attention. The flower will appear on its own.

Tend the soil of your life. Meaningful work, enjoyable challenges and good relationships all contribute to making a meaningful life. Let happiness appear on its own. Putting in the time to do a good day's work and take care of one's loved ones isn't always fun, but it creates fertile ground for happiness to spring forth.

Don't Fall into the Hustler Blackhole

Working 90 hours a week for eventual retirement is a surefire way to create an unbalanced life. Burning the candle at both ends quickly leads to burnout. Sometimes circumstances force us to hustle for a period, but it is a dangerous place to stay for an extended period of time.

Invest in Your Happiness

What is one thing you could do this week to improve the soil of your life? Do you need to relax more? Struggle more? Spend more time with loved ones?
